Erosion formed Yunnan's amazing natural works of art while the earth's crust began almost imperceptibly to rise moving the forest's pinnacles higher into the sky. The Chinese created some extremely descriptive names for the various rocky areas of Yunnan Shilin such as 'The Cluster Of Pinnacles That Supports The Sky', just one of many colourful names given to the rock formations. Close to Badaling the Great Wall Of China extends majestically across misty mountains. It is the largest Man-made structure in the world and was erected to protect the country from invasion from the North. The gigantic wall represented the division of two very different cultures. On one side the Central Asian Nomads and on the other the highly developed civilisation of the emerging Chinese Empire. Shanghai is a Gigantic City and a meeting point of both east and west. The shoreline is without a doubt the city’s main focal point and is a combination of past, present and future and contains the historic monuments and eye catching buildings of a great city. Famous explorer Marco Polo referred to Suzhou as the ‘Venice of the East’, a city that is particularly famous for its gardens. Many of its extremely elegant buildings are remnants of a glorious past. Yunnan´s most famous site is the unique Stone Forest Of Shi Lin, a forest of rock that extends for 27,000 hectares. Hong Kong is a city of the superlative with glimmering skyscrapers that seem to take root in the sky and one elegant building after another with shining glass and hi-tech facades. China is a world within a world!

The ninth day of my journey around China, where I travel from Shanghai, to Chongqing, Chengdu, Xi'an and Beijing. I arrive in Beijing and walk around the famous hutong streets, followed by a failed trip to the Forbidden City - where I then decide to visit the Summer Palace instead. I cap off the day by tasting some of Beijing's speciality meat, duck. ► SUPPORT ME ►►► https://www.patreon.com/jasonbillamtravel/ If you haven't seen the previous videos in my China vlog series, check out: ► A PERFECT DAY IN SHANGHAI 🇨🇳 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUi_VUSdVus&t=5s ► SHANGHAI TRAVEL 🇨🇳 VISITING THE BUND https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMYDUv4ttjA&t=8s ► CHONGQING, CHINA 🇨🇳 MESMERISING FOOD STREETS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MWJx9Ctx4o ► CHONGQING, CHINA 🇨🇳 FINDING THE AMAZING SKYLINE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UB-W6VEmYM ► CHENGDU, CHINA 🇨🇳 HOT POT & LARGEST BUILDING IN THE WORLD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEp-6VhMNrQ ► CHENGDU, CHINA 🇨🇳 THE BEST PLACE TO SEE PANDAS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsI-fHtFuxc ► XI'AN, CHINA 🇨🇳 MUSLIM STREET FOOD & ANCIENT CITY WALL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Evyp7YeF98g&t=25s ► THE TERRACOTTA WARRIORS 🇨🇳 CHINA'S ANCIENT GHOST ARMY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HK7WfKOY5Fw ► INSTAGRAM ►►► https://www.instagram.com/jason_billam/ ► SUBSCRIBE ►►► https://www.youtube.com/c/JasonBillam

I recently returned from a year abroad living and teaching in China. My first school was a public school in the Sichuan province six hours East of Chengdu. It was an amazing and once-in-a-lifetime experience. This video is just to show some of the natural beauty of a more untouched China, as well as some glimpses into daily life away from the big, bustling world cities like Beijing or Shanghai. Enjoy!

Travel video about destination Yunnan Shilin in China. Even though the province of Yunnan in the southwest of China is one of the country's poorest regions, the Stone Forest Of Shilin whose bizarre rock formations rise up to thirty metres into the sky is one of the country's most beautiful natural treasures. During special holidays the landscape is an atmospheric backdrop for the traditional wrestling and bullfights of the Sani people. The exceptional natural splendour and breathtaking diversity of the amazing natural trees of stone have transformed Shilin into one of China's most amazing and dramatic sightseeing destinations. -------------- Watch more travel videos ► http://goo.gl/HYQdhg Join us. China Tourism & Vacations 2016, China trip 2016, China travel guide 2016, China trip guide 2016 Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube China is a huge country in Eastern Asia (about the same size as the United States of America) with the world's largest population. With coasts on the East China Sea, Korea Bay, Yellow Sea, and South China Sea, in total it borders 14 nations. It borders Afghanistan, Pakistan (through the disputed territory of Kashmir), India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam to the south; Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan to the west; Russia and Mongolia to the north and North Korea to the east. This number of neighbouring states is equalled only by China's vast neighbour to the north, Russia. This article only covers mainland China. For Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, please see separate articles. See in China =========== China's attractions are endless and you will never run out of things to see. Especially near the coastal areas, if you run out of things to see in one city, the next one is usually just a short train ride away. Whether you are a history buff, a nature lover or someone who just wants to relax on a nice beach, China has it all from the majestic Forbidden City in Beijing, to the breathtaking scenery of Jiuzhaigou. Even if you live in China for many years, you'll find that there's always something new to discover in another part of the country. Perhaps unsurprising due to its sheer size and long history, China has the third largest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, after Italy and Spain. Karst Scenery ============= The gumdrop mountains and steeply sloping forested hills with bizarre rock formations favored by traditional Chinese artists are not creative fantasy. In fact, much of southern and southwestern China is covered in strangely eroded rock formations known as Karst. Karst is type of limestone formation named after an area in Slovenia. As limestone layers erode, the denser rock or pockets of different stone resist erosion forming peaks. Caves hollow out beneath the mountains which can collapse forming sinkholes and channels leading to underground rivers. At its most unusual Karst erodes to form mazes of pinnacles, arches and passageways. The most famous example can be found in the Stone Forest (石林 Shílín) near Kunming in Yunnan. Some of the most famous tourist areas in China feature spectacular karst landscapes — Guilin and Yangshuo in Guangxi, and much of central and western Guizhou province. Sacred sites ========== Several sites in China have famous Buddhist art: Yungang Grottoes in Shanxi Province - more than 51,000 Buddhist carvings, dating back 1,500 years, in the recesses and caves of the Yangang Valley mountainsides Mogao Caves in Gansu province - art and manuscripts dating back to the 4th century Dazu Rock Carvings near Chongqing - dating from the 7-13th century Longmen Grottoes near Luoyang - 5-10th century Mountains ======== The Five Great Mountains (五岳 wǔyuè), associated with Taoism: Mount Tai (泰山), Shandong Province (1,545 meters) Mount Hua (华山), Shaanxi Province (2,054 meters) Mount Heng (Hunan) (衡山), Hunan Province (1,290 meters) Mount Heng (Shanxi) (恒山), Shanxi Province (2,017 meters) Mount Song (嵩山), Henan Province, where the famous Shaolin Temple (少林寺) is located (1,494 meters) The Four Sacred Mountains (四大佛教名山 sìdà fójiào míngshān), associated with Buddhism: Mount Emei (峨嵋山), Sichuan Province (3,099 meters) Mount Jiuhua (九华山), Anhui Province (1,342 meters) Mount Putuo (普陀山), Zhejiang Province (297 meters, an island) Mount Wutai (五台山), Shanxi Province (3,058 meters) The three main sacred mountains of Tibetan Buddhism: ======== Mount Kailash, Tibet (5,656 meters), also known as Gang Rinpoche in Tibetan, also one of Hinduism's holiest mountains visited by many Hindu pilgrims Kawa Karpo Amnye Machen Itineraries ========= Some itineraries cover trips that are entirely within China: Two weeks to a month in China A week near Hong Kong Along the Yangtze river Along the Yellow river Along the Grand Canal Yunnan tourist trail Overland to Tibet Long March Others are partly in China: ==================== Europe to South Asia over land Silk Road - ancient caravan route from China to Europe Karakoram Highway - Western China to Pakistan through the Himalayas On the trail of Marco Polo Overland Kunming to Hong Kong

Travel video about destination Tibet Qinghai Express in Tibet. The Third Millennium marked the inauguration of a unique train, the Tibet Qinghai Express that travels from China to Tibet. A railroad through the Himalayas on the ‘roof of the world’ and the highest railway line on earth that leads through breathtaking landscapes from Peking to Lhasa. The journey lasts about forty eight hours and includes two nights on the train. The journey begins on a road that for much of the time runs close to the railway line and travels across the high mountain passes of the Kulun Mountains and at a height of nearly five thousand metres above sea level is a remote high plateau that lies within an earthquake zone and often encounters severe snow storms. The train winds its way higher and higher from one high plateau to the next up to snow covered mountains and into the “home of the gods“. Along with the Great Wall Of China and the Three Gorges Dam, the Tibet Railroad is one of China’s greatest structures. The trains travel at the highest speeds that are possible on permafrost, a hundred kilometres an hour and sometimes even up to a hundred and twenty! The Tibet Qinghai Express has already turned many dreams into reality and in future years even more passengers will experience this magnificent and unique experience.
